
Court of appeal principles in publication trials
A study conducted within the framework of the legal assistance unit for journalists and media professionals established by the United Group (UG) under “Towards a free and responsible journalism” project implemented with the support of US Agency for International Development (USAID).
The study was issued in 2008 with the USAID support and it aims to raise legal awareness of young journalists and lawyers and provide legal protection for them.
The study also presents for interested journalists and lawyers inclinations of the Egyptian court of appeal concerning publications cases. Abdel Hamid Salem – lawyer and researcher; he was able to access these information through reading and analyzing over 60 judicial verdicts issued by the court within the past twenty years whereas he extracted thirteen judicial principles developed by the court, all pertaining to publication cases.
Reading is important for two reasons; first: journalists and lawyers can access court principles which atops the pyramid of the judiciary in Egypt, it represents a general inclination of the Egyptian judiciary, second: which is more important – amendments.
