The Legal Unit won an acquittal in the case of embezzlement of association's funds by the Board chairman and treasurer of the Organization for human and nature development
Criminal Court of Damanhour, headed by Councilor Mohamed Afifi, acquitted both of Ms. Nema Abdulaziz Aly Saniour and Mr. Hassan Aly Hammad from the crimes of embezzling public funds, fruad and willful damage to public funds in case no. 4556 of 2008.
The Public Prosecutor has accused both Ms. Nema Abdulaziz Aly and Mr. Hassan Aly Hammad as public officials; the first being the Board Chairman of the Organization for human and natural development under the supervision of the Ministry of Solidarity and the Second being the treasurer, as they both embezzled without any rights 153,104.90 EGP. This crime is associated with the crime of fraud and the willful damage to public funds.
The defense lawyer, Mr. Wael Rohim, focused on the viewpoint that NGO funds are not public funds and that the defendants are not public officials, therefore the crime of embezzlement of public funds isn't a valid accusation.
