Announcing the establishment of "The Coalition of Freeing Civil Work in Egypt"
March 23rd, 2010 - The Egyptian Organization For Human Rights
A number of human rights organizations came together on Monday, 22.3.2010 at EOHR's office to discuss the bill of NGOs prepared by the Ministry of Social Solidarity which brought it before the Council of Ministers for approval, in the preparation for submitting it to People's Assembly and Shura Council. They confirmed that the bill ignored the recommendations concerned with NGOs' law issued by UN Human Rights Council within the framework of the Universal Periodic Review for Egypt's file on the situation of human rights. Also the bill violated the Constitution and international covenants on human rights, particularly on freedom of assembly and association, declaring the establishment of "The Coalition of Freeing Civil Work in Egypt"

The undersigned non-governmental organizations wish to express their extreme dismay at recent news that the Ministry of Social Solidarity has completed a draft for a new NGO law. According to the latest leaked copy, the bill is more restrictive and draconian than repressive bill already in place. It is expected to pass into law with the approval of the government parliamentary majority in the coming month.

In the scope of the "Freedom Messengers Network" project, implemented by the United Group in collaboration with the Center for Defending Freedom of Journalists (Jordan) and Media for Training Association (Lebanon), with the support of Rady School of Management, University of California, USA, both the Center for Defending Freedom of Journalists and Media for Training Association , in February 27 and March 01, respectively, launched the "Freedom Messengers Network" in Jordan and Lebanon in two ceremonies that attracted the attention of the Jordanian and Lebanese media institutions.

Under the sponsorship of the Jordanian Prime Minister Samir Rifai, the activities of the Regional Conference organized by the Center for Defending Freedom of Journalists and Free Voice Dutch organization was launched, on Saturday February 13, at the Dead Sea Kempinski Hotel. The conference is titled "Media in the Arab Judiciary, Towards a Partnership for Defending Freedoms."
