Dated Thursday June 24, 2010, Pyramisa Hotel hosted the final conference of the "Empowering Civil Society and the Legal Profession" project that was titled "Partners in Supporting Civil Society."
The conference gathered a wide variety of those involved with civil work in twelve Egyptian governorates, including: Heads of the Regional Unions of NGOs, representatives of the Ministry of Social Solidarity in a number of governorates, MPs, media and public figures, the number of attendees amounted to 236 people.
Following the projection of the most important achievements of the project and the huge efforts of the NGOs Legal Support Unit, there were three live testimonies about the services provided by the project from: • Dr. Randa Rizk Girls of Tomorrow Association. • Dr. Wafaa Menisey Pioneers of the Environment Association • Ms. Nahed El Dafrawi Al-Motahbeen Feallah Association Then it was the time to declare the coalition between eleven Regional Unions of NGOs that aims at continuing to provide the services of the project, including technical and legal support to the NGOs in the eleven governorates. This was followed by honoring Dr. Mahmoud Al-Sharif, the former Head General Federation of Associations, the heads of the Regional Unions of NGOs in which the project operated, some of the deputies of the Ministry of Social Solidarity in the same governorates, as well as the committee that developed the proposal of amending the Law of Associations and the late Mr. Abu Al-Hamad Al-Gales, the initiator of the Qualitative Union for Poverty Reduction. The second session was titled "Visions on How to Develop the Performance of the General Federation of Associations." The Session was chaired by Mr. Mohamed Anwar Sadat, member of the General Federation of Associations, and the speakers were; Dr. Howaida Adly, Head of the Civil Society Unit at the Social Contract Center, and Mr. Shams Al-Din Nour Al-Din, member of the General Federation of Associations and the Head of Minia Regional Union of NGOs The conference was concluded by a meeting between the members of the coalition and the Heads of Regional Unions of NGOs, in which the United Group handed them the activities of the project to emphasis that the project was the first step in a long journey that aims at supporting civil society associations.
