Establishment of the Public Funds Abuse Monitoring and Documentation Unit in Edfu

In the framework of the "Community Action towards Transparency" project, implemented by the United Group with the support of the USAID, the United Group held a strategic planning workshop for the members of the "Edfu Qualitative Union for Local Communities Development."

During the workshop the members agreed upon establishing a Monitoring Unit within the Union to monitor and document public funds abuse incidents in of the city of Edfu and the surrounding villages.

The members of the Union specified that lawyers, members of local councils, journalists and some executive employees will work within this unit, and they will be responsible for the following:
1. Monitoring and classifying public Funds abuse cases.
2. Establishing a database of public funds abuse cases that had been handled before.
3. Analyzing public funds abuse incidents classifying them legal wise.
4. Providing legal support to the victims of public funds abuse money and those who report public funds abuse incidents.
5. Raise awareness of the concepts of transparency and public funds abuse.
6. Opening channels of communication with journalists and legal experts to spread awareness of public funds abuse issues.
7. Receiving complaints from citizens of public funds abuse incidents.
8. The Establishment of a hotline to receive complaints.
