This was the title of the workshop organized by the United Group in cooperation with The Coalition of Freeing Civil Work in Egypt, in the scope of the "Empowering Civil Society and the Legal Profession" project.
This workshop, which is the first cooperation between the United Group and the Coalition of Freeing Civil Work in Egypt, aimed at presenting a number of proposed amendments to 18 articles of the Executive Regulations of the Egyptian Law of Associations. Those amendments were prepared by Mr. Negad El-Borai, Attorney-at-Law and Senior Partner - United Group.
The proposed amendments tackled the establishment of associations where Mr. Negad believes that it is unnecessary to provide an occupancy deed with the application papers and that the 60 days period for establishing the association should be counted starting from the date of submitting the application to the administrative quarter regardless of being fulfilled. Furthermore, the paper tackled the role of the committee on settling disputes and its decisions, stressing that its decisions should be mandatory for the Ministry of Social Solidarity, as well as the right of associations to work in more than one field without being controlled by the Ministry of Social Solidarity. The paper also previewed the articles concerning dissolving associations, appointing an authorized mandatory to the board of directors, minimizing the authority of the liquefier regarding dissolving the association till a final court verdict to dissolve the association is obtained. The workshop was held at Pavilion Hall, Pyramisa Hotel on Tuesday, April 27, 2010. It was attended by 140 people including leaders in the field of civil work, human rights activists, media and those interested in civil work.
