In the framework of the "Empowering Civil Society and the Legal Profession" project, implemented by the United Group with the Support of the USAID, Port Said Legal Aid Unit held two raising awareness meetings, at the headquarters of Port Said's Regional Union of NGOs, for the associations that have signed protocols of cooperation with the United Group, on the 19th and 25th of January 2010.
The meetings were attended by Ms. Asmaa Badran, Deputy of Port Said's Directorate of Solidarity and Dr. Mahmoud Abdul Ghafoor, President of the Union. The meetings revolved around how to manage NGOs away from legal errors, particularly with regard to the procedures of convening General Assembly meetings and the technical, legal and practical problems that face associations in this regard. The first meeting was attended by the representatives of 23 associations, while the second was attended by 25, as well as Ms. Wafaa Wadea, representative of the USAID.
Ms. Asmaa Badran commended the role of Port Said Legal Aid Unit, which provided an important initiative to raise the awareness of the associations of the law and made a real connection between associations and both the Directorate of Solidarity and the Regional Union of NGOs.
