News - Empowering Civil Society and the Legal Profession

The Legal Aid Unit for NGOs requested water, electricity and sanitation companies in several governorates of the Republic to apply the - idle - provision of Article (13), paragraph (g) of the Law of Civil Associations, which stipulates the right of civil society associations to obtain a 50% reduction of the value of water and electricity bills, which they refuse to apply with the excuse that they became private companies.

The UG stressed in the requests, submitted on behalf of the civil society associations, the importance of this right for the association in support of the legislative philosophy to assist the associations in performing their mission towards the Egyptian society and to apply the provisions of the Civil Associations Law.

The UG is currently receiving civil society associations' requests in this regard in this regard in preparation for litigation to compel the companies to apply the provisions of the law and grant civil associations 50% reduction in the value of water and electricity bills.
