NGOs are the backbone of the democratic structure where citizens use their right to participate. Laws issued since 1956 set a lot of daunting restrictions to the NGOs work. UG had struggled since the 80's for giving NGOs the chance to work freely. By training over 200 NGOs in Cairo, Garbeya, and Dakahleya where the UG conducted institutional capacity building trainings for NGOs. Trainings had included how to build a financial system for NGOs, documentation, proposal writing and benefitting from volunteers. According to the agreement with promoting media laws program one of the USAID projects; UG developed a training guide for NGOs on establishing media units and dealing with journalists, media peoples in order to communicate with the community generally. UG had also trained 25 associations in Aswan, Menia, Cairo, and Alexandria on building these media units and management. Legal capacity building for NGOs lie among the most important objectives of the UG, as legal capacity building fluctuates between explaining the NGOs law, appointing permanent attorneys to provide legal assistance to them. Along the past five years UG had provided a better understanding of the NGOs law for more than four hundred civil associations in Menia, Beni Sweif, Fayum, Giza, Cairo, Qalubeya, Garbeya, Buheira, Dakahleya, Alexandria, Port Said, and others, through extensive legal awareness meetings attended by lawyers, trainers, legal experts, and experts of the ministry of social solidarity. Furthermore, it had provided simple legal explanations which had helped NGOs to understand the law better through simplified non periodic publication named "Tadamon". |
